Mac Snow Leopard Issues
I’ve been using Mac OS10.6, Snow Leopard, for a little over a week now and have encountered few problems.
Areas that have required attention have been:
- Print drivers – Although Snow Leopard is supposed to automatically update drivers on any installed printers this has not been happening on existing drivers. Updating the divers for my Epson 3800 went very smoothly but the R800 that I use for printing CD’s was more problematic. Trying to print a CD consistently resulted in an ‘incorrect tray position’ error, even though this was not the case. To date the only work around I have found is to use the Manual feed setting. In addition printing to this printer is taking an inordinate amount of time, over four minutes to print a single CD
- Genuine Fractals – Before installing Snow Leopard de-activate Geuine Fractals and re-activate after installation. Failure to do so can result in your serial number becoming de-activated.
On the plus side I have seen a marginal increase in overall speed of some products. Searches in both Aperture and Lightroom are noticeably faster and some programs load quicker. Although 64 bit processing has been touted as one of the major features there is little opportunity to take advantage of this until more programs are re-coded – most urgently Adobe Photoshop which is only 32 bit on the Mac although runs at 64 bit mode on a PC.
Overall, few advantages so far for $39!!
