My apologies for the long delay since my last post but my work for the Vancouver 2010 Games has kept me extremely busy.
There is just 30 days to go to the opening ceremonies and suddenly we are starting to wonder how everything will get done – but of course we will as that opening ceremony is going to take place on the due date. Most of the infrastructure has now been built at Whistler Olympic Park and we are getting to the finishig touches. The technicians for the main agencies are starting to arrive to install their parts of the astonishing technology and test everything.
The technological changes from the days of film are quite astonishing. The main photo agencies, Reuters, AP, AFP, and Getty Images will have the ability to transmit images practically in real time by connecting cameras directly or by wireless to a VLAN. For example a Reuters photographer working at the top of the ski hill will have images of each competitor on the photo desk in London before the skier finishes!
Over the coming days I will start to report regularly on the preparations and keep you iformed on progress – as they say, watch this space!
