November sees the transition from spring to summer, which in this region of Brazil means an abundance of wild flowers for landscape and macro enthusiasts. A small lake on the property attracts numerous birds and there is also an abundance of burrowing owls. Brazil of course has one of the largest numbers of bird species available anywhere in the world, so you can expect to see and photograph many that are found nowhere else.

Side trips may also include a visit to the Atlantic coast and to a local captive breeding facility for indigenous parrots and monkeys.
Sunday, November 9: Tour 1 and 2 people travel to Campo Grande to meet with those joining the group for the start of Tour 3.
From Campo Grande airport it is a four-hour drive (including rest stop) to the Caiman Wildlife Refuge in the Pantanal.
Sunday, November 9-16 (7 nights): The Pantanal is the world’s largest wetland system and is an ecological paradise inhabited by hundreds of species of birds – especially large parrots, including the hyacinth macaw – thousands of butterflies, as well as a large mammal population including monkeys, capybara, tapir, giant river otters and the endangered jaguar, to name but a few. You can be sure that there will be no shortage of fantastic photographic opportunities during our one-week stay. For a full list of the fauna to be found in the region click here: http://www.caiman.com.br/upload/documentos/LISTA_FAUNA.pdf
Our accomodation in The Pantanal at Caiman Lodge will be in air-conditioned double rooms with private bathrooms. The lodge features a swimming pool, home-style dining room, a communal living room, numerous walking trails.
Two bi-lingual guides with extensive knowledge of the local flora and fauna will be available to us and there will be several periods of photography each day: including nocturnal opportunities. November is the height of the breeding season, and in addition to birds in their natural habitat we may have opportunities to photograph mating rituals, nesting behaviour, and parents feeding young.
Sunday, November 16: Everyone departs Caiman Lodge and returns to Sao Paulo via Campo Grande airport.
This is the end of Tour 2 and the continuation of Tours 1 and 3.
Sunday, November 16: Groups 1 and 3 travel from Sao Paulo airport to Mangueiras Ranch located at Bairro da Ponte Nova – a two hour drive. The region surrounding Mangueiras feaures topography very different to that of Sucandi as it is located in an area of rainforest mountains close to the famous spa town of Aguas de Lindoia.
Accomodation is in double suites (three- or four-person occupancy available) with comfortable communal lounge and a dining room providing delicious home-prepared and traditional meals.
You will also have the opportunity to ride Brazilian-bred Lusitano horses and learn working equitation with one of the world's best natural horsemen clinicians, Glen Stewart. (This is not of course compulsory but may well appeal to a non-photographic partner) For full details of this please contact either myself or Jean Llewellyn. Full details of the working equitation and Glen can be found on Jean's website at www.jeanllewellyn.com
18 November we will visit a conservation project that practices the captive breeding and release of indigenous Brazilian bird species which will provide opportunities for close-up photography that would be impossible in the wild. We are also arranging a talk by top Brazilian convservationist Antonio “Tonico” Pereira who will be able to provide a personal and knowledgeable perspective with regard to prevailing environmental issues.
