PHOTOGRAPHY FIELD TRIPS TO BRAZIL'S PANTANAL - 2010

Award-winning wildlife and nature photographer PETER LLEWELLYN invites you to join him on the trip of a lifetime to the remarkable PANTANAL CONSERVATION AREA – a UNESCO World Heritage site.

A tropical wetland covering 195,000 square kilometres (75,000 square miles) in western Brazil, and Overflowing from Bolivia and Paraguay, the Pantanal is a vast ecosystem with a huge density of species: over 650 birds, 300 mammals, 480 reptiles, and 400 fish, as well as nurturing one of the world’s most biologically diverse collections of plants.

The rarest animals that inhabit the Pantanal wetland are the marsh deer and the giant river otter. Parts of the Pantanal are also home to the endangered hyacinth macaw, crowned solitary eagle, maned wolf, giant armadillo, capybara, Brazilian tapir, giant anteater and the Paraguayan caiman.

Peter has personally visited and selected the areas, accommodation (in comfortable eco-lodges) and
seasons that offer the most ideal and abundant opportunities for nature and wildlife photography. He has also identified the best local guides that will accompany groups during the daily field trips, on foot, by boat or on horseback.

All tours will include photographic help as needed, image critique, and digital darkroom sessions.

November 2010 (10 nights: two nights in São Paulo (beginning and end of tour), eight nights in Pantanal Eco Lodges) Limit 10 persons

This tour is a photographers dream, 8 full days Pantanal at the end of the dry season. We’ll have excellent chances to photograph jaguars, giant river otters, capybaras, monkeys, caimans, and a wide variety of tropical birds. Many of these animals are easily approachable and get be photographed with medium telephoto lenses (300mm or better)

The first day we will travel from Sau Paulo to Cuiaba where we will meet our guide and begin our journey in air conditioned vehicle to the first of two eco-lodges usd on the tour. Daily trips to known wildlife locations close to the lodges will allow a wide variety of photographic opportunities. Our first lodge includes a tree top platform for early morning trips to photograph a local troup of Howler Monkeys.

We now spend eight days photographing the amazing Pantanal lowlands. In addition to the local birds, mammals and reptiles that abound in this region we will also take a trip on the Clarinho River in search of the Giant River Otters and for those who wish, fish for the pirhanna that inhabit the river.. Weather permitting on the last afternoon we will head by horseback to the most remote part of the reserve and spend the night at Bafo de Onca Camp. This remote area is our venue to shoot star trails long into the night.
